About festival 2007
In June, from 1 till 10, Moscow will be hosting the most renowned symphony orchestras and most famous maestros at the II Festival of the World's Symphony Orchestras. The unique cultural event caused a wide resonance last year. The Festival acquainted the public with the world popular orchestras, and once again it showed that the Russian symphonic orchestras can stay among of the best orchestras of the world. It proved its necessity and importance and became the largest cultural event not only in Moscow, but also in Russia in the critics’ and audience’s opinions.
The president of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin appreciated the Festival at its true value and proposed to make it annual.
The Festival of the World's Symphony Orchestras is dedicated to the Day of Russia. This year the Festival will pass in the Column's Hall of the House of Union again.
Outstanding orchestras of Russia and of the Europe will take part in the II Festival of the World's Symphony Orchestras. They will play masterpieces of great composers of the past and the present. In traditionally three foreign symphonic orchestras and two Russian collectives – a regional orchestra and a combined symphony orchestra of Russia - will be presented at the Festival. Interesting repertoire of each orchestra, combination of innovation and performing traditions allow to call this Festival the significant action in the Moscow cultural life.
The Orchestre National de France under maestro Riccardo Muti will open the II Festival of the World's Symphony Orchestras. Within the festival Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia Orchestra will give a performance. This unique Italian orchestra playing only symphony music will performundermaestro Antonio Pappano. One of the oldest European orchestras Dresdner Philharmonie, conducted by Rafael Fruehbeck de Burgos, will play at the Column's Hall of the House of Union too.
Russia will be represented by the Ural philharmonic orchestra which is one of the most favorite orchestras among the audience and the press. It will play under «the best conductor of the new generation» Dmitry Liss. Unexcelled Russian maestro Yuri Temirkanov will lead the St.Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra. In one of the piece of concert on June, 10, 18 outstanding musicians from 11 regions of our country will play as members of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra. This concert will be the culmination of this forum of classical symphonic music.
Organizers of the Festival are sure that this cultural event which doesn’t have analogues and parallels in the world concert practice will promote consolidation of intercommunication between the orchestras and decorate the musical life of Russia.
The Festival of the World's Symphony Orchestras is realized with support of the Culture and Art Council at the President of the Russian Federation and the Federal Agency of Culture and Cinematography. The organizer of the Festival is Symphony and Chamber Orchestras Leaders’ Association (SCOLA). The president of SCOLA is maestro Yuri Temirkanov.
