Orchestra: The Rostov Academic Symphonic Orchestra

The art director and chief conductor of the Rostov Academic Symphonic Orchestra , an Honored Artist.

Yuri Tkachenko is one of the new generation leading Russian conductors. He started professional conducting in the year 1980. Having graduated from the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music (conducting class leaded by B.I. Demchenko) , he brought his skill to the state of perfection with professors A.Kats and I. Musin.

In 1995, after a contest, he became an assistant conductor of the Tchaikovsky Big Symphonic Orchestra.

Having worked with the worldwide known orchestra and dealing with prominent musicians, including maestro Vladimir Fedoseev,  Yuri Tkachenko formed his artistic taste and corrected his professional and artistic views.

As of 1997 Yuri Tkachenko toured a lot with best orchestras from Russia and the former Soviet Republics as well as with orchestras from abroad. Among these orchestras there were Academic Symphonic Orchestra and the St. Petersburg Philarmonic  Orchestra, Philarmonic orchestras from Novosibirsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Jaroslav, Rostov and other Russian cities, the National Honored Orchestra of Ukraine, The National Philarmonic Orchestra of Serbia, The Flemish Belgium Radio Orchestra.

Yuri Tkachenko participated in famous festivals such as Polish “ Cultural  Crossroads” , Belgium “Europalia 2005”, The Summer Festival in Dubrovnik , “Splitsko Summer” in Croatia and Japanese “Fuji” television festival.

Since January 2007 Yuri Tkachenko is the art director  and c hief conductor of the Rostov Academic Symphonic Orchestra. Starting from this year the orchestra made itself known as one of the dynamically developing symphonic orchestras in Russia. Its first performances were held in Poland, Spain, Japan, South Korea and had great success.

In the conductor’s biography a  special niche is given to the Tchaikovsky’s Fund Russian Symphonic Orchestra. As a result of cooperation of the orchestra and the conductor, 10 albums with music of Bach, Mozart, Mendelson, Poulenk, Glazunov, Tchaikovsky were released; a new version of the unfinished symphony “Es-dur” (The Life) was performed; the conductor and the orchestra took part in the 5th Tchaikovsky World Youth Contest in Japan as well in many other projects.

The repertoire of the conductor mainly consists of Russian and Western European Classics.

The critics marked the impeccable taste and depth in performed musical compositions. Belgium media wrote about Stravinsky’s ballet “The Fire Bird”- “this music is in the conductor’s blood”.

Contemporary composers’ compositions are also an integral part of Tkachenko’s repertoire: Denisov, Shimanovsky, Penderezky, Kikta, Lutoslavsky are the incomplete list of composers, whose compositions were performed by the conductor during the current season.

The conductor’s performances geography is constantly growing: Japan, S.Korea, Croatia, Monte Negro, Serbia, Poland, Belgium, Spain.  Yuri Tkachenko became an honored artist of the Russian Federation in the year 2002. As of 2007 he was appointed the head of department of orchestra conducting in the Moscow State University of Culture and Arts.
