Alexander Sladkovsky
Alexander Sladkovsky graduated from the Moscow Conservatory and later from St. Petersburg Conservatory. In 1997 he made his debut in the Opera and Ballet Theater of the St Petersburg Conservatory with Mozart’s “Cosi fan tutte”. In 1999 Alexander Sladkovsky became the winner of the Third International Prokofiev Competition. In the years from 1997 till 2006 Alexander Sladkovsky was Conductor and then the Principal Conductor of the St. Petersburg State Capella as well as in 2001 – 2003 Principal Conductor of the State Opera and Ballet Theater of the St Petersburg Conservatory.
During this time the orchestras under Alexander Sladkovsky’s guidance took part in important state and international projects and festivals such as the Musical Olympus and Musical Spring festivals in St. Petersburg, Moscow’s Arts Square International Winter Festival and the All-Russia Bogacheva Competition of opera singers, “Youth Academies of Russia” of Alexander Tchaikovsky Foundation, “Rodion Schedrin. Self-portrait”, the Young Euro Classics Festival in Berlin, the Days of St. Petersburg culture in Almaty with the participation of stars of the State Academic Mariinsky Opera and Ballet Theatre, “Honorary Citizens of St. Petersburg” festival, the Twelth and Thirteenth Easter Festival, the Crescendo, Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, Kunstfest-Weimar, Budapest Spring Festival 2006, Finca Festival Frantz & Friends.
In 2002-2008 he performed music by such contemporary composers as A. Petrov, R. Schedrin, G. Kancheli, S. Slonimsky, B. Tischenko, Y. Krasavin, M. Ledenev, M. Pletnev, and young composers of Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan and Ekaterinburg. More than once he performed works of A.Chaikovsky and in March 2003 he conducted the World Premiere of Symphony No. 3 in Moscow. Alexander Sladkovsky appeared with famous international musicians, such as Y. Bashmet, R. Alagna, D. Gheringas, A. Rudin, A. Knyazev, A. Menezes, M. Caballe, L. Kazarnovskaya, B. Berezovsky, N. Petrov, D. Matsuev, N. Shtarkman, N. Lugansky, S. Roldugin.
Alexander Sladkovsky acts as a guest conductor in the State Academy Symphony Orchestra of Russia, the Russian National Orchestra, the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, the Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra, the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, the Symphonica-Siciliana Orchestra (Italy), the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra, the Lower Saxony Symphony Orchestra, the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra, the Symphony Orchestra of the Budapest National Opera and Ballet Theatre, the “Philharmonic of Nations”.
Alexander Sladkovsky conducted concerts in honour of Her Royal Majesty Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands, The President of the United States Bill Clinton, The President of the United States George Bush, The President of Russia Vladimir Putine and The President of The USSR Mikhail Gorbatchev.
In 2003 he was a nominee for Russia’s Golden Soffit Award as the Best Conductor of the Year and in 2005 he became Honoured artist of Russia according to the President’s decree.
Presently Alexander Sladkovsky is a Conductor of the State Symphony Orchestra “Novaya Rossiya”
